The PTSA has orchestrated the Academic Excellence Award Ceremony for many years.  Not only does the PTSA schedule, plan and host the ceremony it also purchaes the pins given to students.  This event has become a tradition within at WHS.

The Academic Excellence Award Ceremony recognizes students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade for the previous school year who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  It is broken down into 2 categories, weighted 3.5 and unweighted 4.0.  Letters are sent by mail letting parents/guardians know their student is being recognized and when the ceremony will take place.

An “unweighted” 4.0 means your student has achieved straight A’s for that particular school year.  A 3.5 and above is based on grades earned including “weighted” classes in honors, AP courses and college credits which are calculated on a 5.0 scale in contrast to the unweighted 4.0.

Pins will be given to students to commemorate their achievements which they may proudly wear on graduation day!
